How are different mobile phone technologies such as QR codes, NFC, Augmented reality, bluetooth, mobile payments and search services being used. Here are some UK and US stats on QR codes, NFC, Augmented reality, bluetooth, mobile payments and search services.

QR codes fair well in the mobile phone technology adoption data our experience tells us that the issue many have with usage is down to the QR Code  reader. We recommend checking reviews by others on the App Store and Android Market, our recommendations are here. 2d barcodes offer a richer level of data but 1d barcodes still fair well day to day for simple shopping comparisons. We are not sure if the data includes Microsoft Tag but as mobile technology goes we don’t see it much anyhow.

Bluetooth still seems popular but strange considering how little I ever see it used.

QR Codes used on condoms for check-ins!

Blog No Comments

Yep that title is absolutely correct! Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest (PPGNW) distributed more than 50,000 condoms in QR code-emblazoned wrappers to college students in the state of Washington. The wrappers enable people to scan the QR code with their smartphone to check in to the site and anonymously let the world know where they practiced safe sex. Users can also check in to the site by computer.

The promotion was originally launched to mark National Condom Week, which ran from Feb. 14 through Feb. 21, but the site is still live.

Planned Parenthood said the site “is like Foursquare for people who don’t want a sexually transmitted infection.”

The site has already attracted more than 4,500 check-ins and 65,000 visitors. Here’s the video…

QR codes in music videos

Blog No Comments

I was just sat watching 4music’s video of the week and there right at the end was a QR code, thats right in the video. Luckily I can pause and rewind, so i did. Snapped the code and was taken to the You Tube video. Does that make sense? Firstly i am not yet convinced by QR codes on mainstream programming but worst of all it was not being tracked the url was direct so if someone clicks they wouldn’t know.

First rule of QR codes guys is to track it, understanding is valuable in your marketing efforts. Also its great to have your video available again for the QR COde respondee to view but if they read your code they probably wanted to know more, how about a microsite? As with everything marketing, driving an action is just one part of the campaign but giving the user value to take an action is another.

Anyway its good to see QR Codes being embraced further, keep up the good work!
